Emergency Preparedness

June is National Safety Month and SCMH is here to help provide you resources to get your business started on emergency preparedness or review your existing emergency plan with your employees.

A good place to start is visiting https://www.ready.gov/business where you will find guidance on how to start putting your plan together.

Also consider these phases when planning:

  1. MITIGATION: Prevention or preparation. Are you taking all the necessary precautions to ensure workplace safety? Do you have a safety management team to constantly remind employees on steps to take in the event of an emergency?
  2. PREPAREDENESS: Includes evacuation plans, your points of contact, emergency contact numbers.
  3. RESPONSE: These are action items pertinent to saving lives, documents, property etc. For instance, seeking shelter or turning off gas valves.
  4. RECOVERY: Actions taken to resume normal operations and may include contacting insurance agencies, conducting repairs, and confirming structures are safe to return to.
